Milla Jovovich, Jameela Jamil share abortion stories to decry Georgia law

Both actresses criticized the bill that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law last week that will ban abortions if a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks into pregnancy. The law is set to go into effect January 1, and the American Civil Liberties Union has said it will challenge it in court.

“This makes Georgia the sixth state to pass such a restrictive six-week abortion ban, joining Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, Iowa, and North Dakota,” Jovovich wrote.

“Abortion is hard enough for women on an emotional level without having to go through it in potentially unsafe and unsanitary conditions.”

In response Tuesday, Philipps wrote on Twitter, “1 in 4 women have had an abortion. Many people think they don’t know someone who has, but #youknowme.”

She encouraged other women who had abortions to use the #youknowme hashtag.
